In order to celebrate the European Day of Languages on Sept 26, 2023, EUNIC Netherlands (the network of European cultural institutes and embassies), the European Commission and OBA Amsterdam combined their forces to organize speak-dates with native speakers from every corner of the continent. Nearly 20 languages were represented during the ‘speak-date’ sessions during which short one-on-one language lessons with a native speaker were provided. From Georgian to Estonian, from Spanish to Ukrainian, it was really inspiring! Fascinating stories about the different cultures and countries were told and various authentic sweets could be tasted.
The European Day of Languages promotes the rich linguistic diversity of Europe. While this day aims to draw attention to the numerous languages spoken in Europe, it strives to emphasize the value and advantage of learning new languages.
