Estonian Music at the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam

On August 27, the Honorary Consul of Estonia in Amsterdam, Marcel van den Heuvel, hosted a concert as part of the exciting Grachtenfestival. Ischico Velzel, a brilliant young pianist took the stage with a special performance of music by Estonian composers. This concert was Ischico’s debut at the Grachtenfestival. During the program, which was specifically prepared for the Estonian Consulate, the pianist combined the music of Estonian composers with her own inspiring improvisations. Ischico has been impressed by the history of Estonian song festivals, and to respect our traditions, the concert also included the joint singing of a folk song in Estonian.

Ischico was recently awarded the Lamond Prize for her unique approach to unknown piano repertoire. She has a very special way of interweaving classical pieces with her own improvisations. This year, Ischico will release her much-anticipated debut album, but has already won the hearts of critics with her boundless creativity, effortless expressiveness, and technical virtuosity.
