Today, on October 13, 2021, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Lauri Kuusing, presented his credentials to King Willem-Alexander.
“It is a great honor for me to start working in the year when Estonia and the Netherlands celebrate 100 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. It inspires me to set high goals for our relationship for the next century,” Kuusing said.
In the conversation between the king and the ambassador following the presentation of the credentials, the king warmly recalled his state visit to Estonia in 2018. It was jointly stated that the bilateral relations between Estonia and the Netherlands are excellent and have become more diverse over the years. Various issues were discussed in the areas of digital innovation, energy, smart connectivity and climate, where the two countries have a lot to do in cooperation. The king and the ambassador also shared the idea that tourism has great potential.
Ambassador Lauri Kuusing was born on July 16, 1978 in Tallinn. In 2005, he received a master’s degree in European studies from the University of Tartu. Kuusing has been working in the Foreign Service since 2005, when he started as a Desk Officer for Russia. He has held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as in the Office of the President of the Republic. In 2008-2010, Kuusing worked at the Estonian Permanent Mission to the EU. In 2010-2014 he was the Deputy Head of Mission of the Estonian Embassy in Moscow and in 2014-2017 the Deputy Permanent Representative at the Estonian Permanent Mission to NATO. From 2017 until the summer of this year, Lauri Kuusing served as Foreign Policy Adviser to the President of the Republic.
